Chiropractic Care for a Changing Body

Pregnancy brings significant changes to your body, and it's common to experience new aches, stiffness, or changes in the way you move as your pregnancy progresses.

Low back pain, pelvic discomfort, hip pain, and muscle tension are among the musculoskeletal concerns that may develop during pregnancy. Chiropractic care can be adapted to accommodate the physical changes of pregnancy and your individual comfort.

Why Does Pregnancy Affect the Way You Feel and Move?

As your body changes throughout pregnancy, your posture, movement, and the physical demands placed on your muscles and joints change as well.

You may notice:

  • Low back pain or stiffness
  • Hip or pelvic discomfort
  • Muscle tension
  • Difficulty getting comfortable in certain positions
  • Changes in mobility
  • Discomfort with walking, standing, sleeping, or everyday activities

Not every ache or pain during pregnancy is musculoskeletal, so we'll consider your symptoms and health history when determining whether chiropractic care is appropriate.

Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

Your visit starts with a history and examination to better understand what's bothering you and how it's affecting your everyday activities.

Chiropractic techniques and positioning can be modified for your comfort throughout pregnancy. When appropriate, care may include chiropractic adjustments, soft-tissue techniques, therapeutic exercise, or other supportive care based on your individual needs.

If your symptoms suggest that evaluation by your obstetric or other healthcare provider is appropriate, we'll recommend that as well.

What About After Baby Arrives?

The physical demands don't end with delivery. Feeding, carrying, lifting, disrupted sleep, and the everyday demands of caring for a new baby can all place new stresses on the body.

Postpartum patients are welcome to see us for evaluation of musculoskeletal concerns involving the back, neck, hips, and other areas.
